International Monetary Fund (IMF) Vacancy for a National Accounts Statistics Advisor in Nigeria

Job Title: National Accounts Statistics Advisor, AFRITAC West 2 (Job Number: 1300550)
Description
The Statistics Department (STA) of the IMF, and the IMF’s Africa Regional Technical Assistance Center West 2 (AFRITAC West 2), are looking for a qualified candidate to fill a National Accounts Statistics Advisor (NASA) position based in Accra, Ghana. The Advisor will undertake technical assistance missions and manage statistical capacity building programs in the countries covered by AFW 2- Cape Verde, The Gambia, Ghana, Liberia, Nigeria, and Sierra Leone. The Advisor’s initial appointment would be for a period of one year (starting approximately in December 2013) with the possibility for extensions.

Duties: 
The NASA will provide and oversee technical assistance in real sector statistics to the six countries covered by AFW 2. These areas of work, which are included in the annual work plans endorsed by AFW 2′s Steering Committee, include:

(i) to manage technical assistance on statistical capacity building in national accounts, price indices and other real sector statistics;
 (ii) to facilitate activities carried out by, and promote interaction of, government agencies in the development of such macroeconomic statistics; and
(iii) to coordinate technical assistance activities with the relevant IMF Departments and, where appropriate, with other international institutions and bilateral agencies involved in technical assistance in statistics.
 He/she will work under the general direction of the Coordinator of AFW 2 and the technical direction of STA at IMF headquarters.
He/she should expect to travel extensively within the AFW 2 region. The NASA will undertake technical assistance missions and provide training primarily in national accounts but also in other areas of real sector statistics if needed.
 He/she will also be responsible for managing and backstopping missions by short-term experts, ensuring that the appropriate mission documentation is produced following STA’s guidelines.

Qualifications
The successful candidate must have a university degree in a relevant discipline, an excellent knowledge and experience in compiling national accounts acquired in a national statistical office. A good knowledge and experience in other macroeconomic statistics, particularly price statistics, is desirable. The candidate should have strong interpersonal and communication skills, as well as an excellent command of English. Ability to coordinate technical assistance with the relevant IMF Departments and with other international institutions and bilateral agencies is essential.
